This is Baker, he is a 7 year old boy that you will rarely find without a smile. He loves being surrounded by family and friends and playing with trucks and having books read to him. Although Baker
is one of the happiest boys on earth he faces a lot of struggles because he was born with Menkes Disease.
Menkes is a rare illness that affects about 1 in every 250,000 live births. Menkes affects copper levels in the body, leading to copper deficiency. Copper proteins are necessary for the body to build bone, nerves, and other tissue. Menkes Disease prevents the absorption of copper from the intestines and causes it to build up in excess amounts in the kidney, while remaining deficient in the liver and brain. This causes changes in the hair, brain, bones, liver, and arteries. Most children with Menkes, including Baker, are unable to speak, walk, eat or do anything to take care of themselves. The prognosis for individuals with Menkes is poor; death usually occurs within the first decade of life. There is no cure but we are PRAYING FOR A MIRACLE to save our boys life! Funds raised will be going to The Menkes Foundation, which is a nonprofit organization that raises awareness for Menkes.
